The dispatch center began receiving texts to 911 in 2021. Focus on low acuity 911 calls and 302 means of transport for special populations (children, pregnant, geriatric, etc.). As that group of people used Delco Dispatch during their paid and volunteer shifts at local ambulance stations, firehouses, and medic units, they made suggestions and reported bugs about. The 911 Communications Center is staffed 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. There are currently 30 full-time Telecommunicators and one Communications Manager in the division. The project began as a way for a few EMTs and firefighters to gain some better insight into the world around them. 'Enhanced' means that additional equipment has been installed that displays the caller’s name, address, and telephone number, an extremely important tool for the E-911 operator if the caller is unable to speak for whatever reason. The Douglas County 911 System is an 'enhanced' system, hence the 'E' in front of the 911. Dispatchers work 12 hour shifts, weekends and holidays. Our dispatchers go through many hours of training and are all EMD (emergency medical dispatch certified) providing citizens with EMD pre-arrival instructions for medical calls. Currently we use a total of five computer screens at eight work stations that are essential for answering and dispatching calls quickly and CAD (computer aided dispatch) to log all incoming calls and keep track of the information, along with mapping and NCIC. Clair County as all 911 calls and non-emergency calls are dispatched through our call center. This is the only PSAP (public safety answering point) in St. We dispatch for eleven law enforcement agencies and twenty-five fire departments. The County is providing these radios and phones for first responders across all Delaware County municipalities. The consolidation brought County Sheriff, County Fire and Emergency Medical Services. Delaware County is now among the first dispatch centers in the nation to combine radio and cellular capabilities for public safety.
